Principle and Topology Derivation of Single-Inductor Multi-Input Multi-Output DC–DC Converters

Single-inductor multi-input multi-output (SI-MIMO) dc-dc converters are attractive in the engineering applications due to advantage of high power density and low cost. In order explore as many possible SI-MIMO topologies, this article proposes a simple effective topology derivation principle that only requires three steps. First, basic cells consisting single inductor multiple sets unidirectional switches well inputs/outputs proposed. Second, integrate mentioned with branch typical single-input single-output converters. Finally, implement simplification by removing unnecessary switches/diodes. Based on proposed principle, large number topologies derived from buck, boost, buck-boost, noninverting buck-boost article. With more choices having different performance characteristics, it is very beneficial for engineers gain an optimized design preferred one can be selected out after comprehensive comparison. As example, comparison selection among family single-inductor dual-output also conducted Besides, analysis, considerations, simulation/experiment results optimum demonstrated detail verify its advantages.
